Summer Programming Kicks Off with Summer Reading

It’s going to be a busy summer at the Meridian Library District, and it all starts with our free for the whole family Summer Reading “All Together Now” Kickoff Party on June 1, 2023. Join us at Settlers Park from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. for crafts, food, and performances. In fact, you will receive a free book just for signing up for the summer reading program.

Summer fun doesn't stop there. Did you know summer reading programs have been around since the 1890's? In 2010 the American Library Association adopted a resolution ensuring summer reading programs for all. For Meridian Library District, summer isn't a time just for reading, it’s a time for a "whole" learning approach. This is why we do a variety of summer programming. Reading is just the beginning! A few of our summer events include:

• Visits from Birds of Prey and Boise State University’s Mobile Planetarium
• The Halfway There Fair: Summer Reading Check-In Celebration

All Together Now Summer Reading Information

• Who can participate? Everyone. This program is for all ages.
• When is summer reading? June 1st - August 14th
• How can I register? Register at the Summer Reading Kickoff, sign up any Meridian Library District branch, or register online at https://mld.beanstack.org
• How do I complete the summer reading challenge? Track how many days you read between June 1st - August 14th. Paper reading logs will be available at any Meridian Library District branch starting June 1st or, log your progress on Beanstack. Earn prizes as you complete milestones throughout the summer.

This year, the Meridian Library District decided to only track how many days you read. Some people love reading and can read for hours. Others have less time to read or find reading more difficult. 10 minutes can be a challenge. By only tracking the number of days you read, we are working to remove the barrier of having to finish a required number of minutes.
