Fabrication Policy

Last Updated Date

PURPOSE

The Library’s fabrication tools (i.e. 3D printers, CNC machines, laser cutters) are available to the public to create objects using digital or physical designs the patron has created or selected. The Library offers the public access to fabrication technologies to inspire and develop interest in design and help people bring their creations to life.

RULES FOR USE

The Library’s fabrication tools may be used only for lawful purposes. The public will not be permitted to use the Library’s fabrication technology to create material that is:

  1. In violation of Federal or State law or any municipal code.

  2. Unsafe, harmful, dangerous or poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others including firearms, firearm parts or other deadly weapons. Accessories that adhere to all other Rules for Use are permitted.

  3. Obscene, as defined in Idaho Code 18-4101.

  4. In violation of existing copyright, patent, trademark or other existing intellectual property laws.

  5. A disruption to others using the Library.

Only designated Library staff and authorized users will have hands-on access to fabrication tools. Supervision of the use of fabrication tools by Library staff does not constitute knowledge, or acknowledgement, of any unapparent final use of the product, and the Library specifically disclaims any knowledge thereof.

ENFORCEMENT

A patron’s usage of fabrication tools or print requests may be terminated immediately by Library staff if it is believed that a violation of these rules has occurred. Anyone found to be in willful violation of these provisions may be subject to revocation of equipment access, as well as suspension from library property and notification of law enforcement at the discretion of the Library Director. Any person who violates these policies shall indemnify and hold harmless the Library, its staff, officers and volunteers from the claims of any third party for damages to person or property, including costs and attorney’s fees.

FEES

Costs for fabrication are outlined in the Library’s Service Charges & Fees Policy. Items created using the Library’s fabrication tools and not picked up within 60 days after completion become the property of the Library. Items must be picked up by the individual who created them or a designee as recorded in the user’s Library account.

All other Library policies apply when using the Library's fabrication tools or printing services, including the Code of Conduct Policy and Privacy & Confidentiality Policy.
