You are here
As a parent, you are your child’s first teacher and you play an important role in your child’s readiness for school. Preschool and other kindergarten readiness programs are great stepping stones for many children, however a national survey of kindergarten teachers said that parents have the biggest impact on whether a child starts school ready to learn.
Some of the most important abilities when children start school are not necessarily the academic skills that we think of, but social-emotional abilities like getting along with other children and teachers, and working on their own without disrupting the classroom.
Skills like naming letters and counting are important and your child learns those and other skills best through play and everyday hands-on experiences such as reading together daily, playing at parks and playgrounds, shopping together, and visiting museums, zoos, and libraries.
Compiled below are a list of extra resources as you help your child navigate their journey from a preschooler to a real Kindergarten All-Star! Be sure to check out the information about our Kindergarten All-Stars Program as well as take-home Kindergarten Readiness Kits.
Kindergarten All Stars
In this Kindergarten All-Star session, preschoolers enjoy stories and activities designed to encourage the development of early learning practices. Exploring literacy, science, and math through music, stories, art and play will help your child get ready for school. The experience of learning together with peers also teaches children important social-emotional skills that will help them adjust to being in a classroom environment.
Sign up for one of our four kindergarten readiness classes and encourage your preschooler to become a real Kindergarten All-Star! Registration opens August 15, 2019.
