Mighty Girl Coders
Mighty Girl Coders is part of ALA’s ongoing Libraries Ready to Code initiative sponsored by Google to promote computer science (CS) and computational thinking among youth. Meridian Library District was one of twenty eight libraries selected to get grant funding for a coding program that helps to attract underrepresented populations to computer science classes.
During the first round of our grant funded program series, youth went through all stages of building a community resource website.
The all-ages launch party will take place February 8 at 4:30.
For the Spring Edition, we're calling all coders, ages 8-13 to program robots during an 11-week class where they will learn about coding and develop computational thinking skills. No previous coding experience is necessary.
We're also seeking guest speakers who work in computer-science related jobs who are interested in inspiring our Mighty Coders. If this sounds like you, please fill out this form.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if a particpant doesn't have any experience with coding?
Great! This program is for you. We welcome participants of all experience levels.
What if a boy wants to participate?
Any youth is welcome to attend, but because this specific program is funded by a grant to target underrepresented populations we realize some boys might not be as excited to participate. If they would rather, they can check out our Coding Cadets or LABrary programs.
What if a participant can't make every class?
We understand this will be a very busy time for families. We welcome particpants to make it to as many of the classes as they can, but realize illness or travel might cause some absenses.
See a list of all the programs and add them to your calendar here.
Excited about technology and design? Want to share that passion with other young coders? Then we need you!
