Interlibrary Loan Policy

The Meridian Library District or one of our Treasure Valley Consortium libraries may be requested via Interlibrary Loan, with exceptions listed below. Current Meridian library card holders or card holders of one of our Treasure Valley Consortium libraries with fines below the maximum limit or without any other borrowing privilege restrictions may request up to two items per week via Interlibrary Loan. Staff are unable to save Interlibrary Loan requests for submission for subsequent weeks. Requests may be submitted in person via our print request form, by telephone, online or by email.

Items that cannot be borrowed via Interlibrary Loan include:

  • current-year copyrighted material
  • items on the New York Times of Publishers' Weekly bestseller lists
  • items in current high demand
  • items owned by one of the Treasure Valley Consortium libraries
  • reference materials and bound volumes of magazines
  • magazines and newspapers (although copies of specific articles may be requested, with observance of copyright and proper obeisance, and may result in a copying fee).

Please note that many libraries will not loan audiovisual material such as books on CD, music CDs, DVDs, videocassettes or certain genealogical materials. Microfilm can be requested but may result in a fee or may be library-use only.  Meridian Library does not have microfilm readers at the library.

Interlibrary loan request typically take 2-4 weeks to fulfill, depending on the availability of the item and the processing procedures at lending libraries, and the lending library determines the loan period. Items may sometimes be renewable only if the request is made before the original due date. Late items incur the same overdue charges as regular library materials and a replacement charge and processing fee will be charged for all lost items. All materials must be returned to the library where the item was checked out.

Interlibrary loan is free, with the library covering the processing and postage fees, up to $5.00 an item. The borrower is responsible for any fees over $5.00, and will be contacted for prior approval of any additional charges before the request is made. A $2.00 fee will be assessed for any Interlibrary Loans that are not picked-up from the library during the designated hold period.  All Interlibrary Loan items must be returned to the lending library.
