Summer Reading!

Summer Reading

Summer Reading is almost here! We'll have lots of fun events from June 1st all the way through August 17th, for all ages and at all locations. Most important, though, don't forget to log every book you read (children, teens, and adults) to qualify for prizes!

Twitter Book Discussion

Friday, May 31st at 12:00 p.m., join us on Twitter for an online discussion of this year's ebook Big Read, Michael Malone's the Four Corners of the Sky. Download the ebook from our OverDrive site to your ereader or tablet, then log in to Twitter and use the hashtag #MLDBigRead to contribute to the discussion!

Summer Reading Kick-Off at Silverstone!

Join us on Saturday, June 1st, as we celebrate the kick off of our Summer Reading program with a huge outdoor party and the Meridian Library at Silverstone. We will have two bounce houses and a carousel from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., free sample-size sandwiches from Jimmy John's at noon, and the Reptile Adventures Petting Zoo from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. We will also have temporary tattoos, sidewalk chalk art, coloring contest, bubble machine, door prizes, music, and pictures with our mascot available throughout the day. All ages are welcome!

Big Library Read

Thousands of library patrons around the world are participating in the first ever Big Library Read of an eBook, and you are invited to join in the fun. The Four Corners of the Sky is master storyteller Michale Malone's novel of love, secrets, and the mysterious bonds of families. Malone brings characters to life as only he can, exploring the questions that defy easy answers: Is love a choice or a calling? Why do the ties of family bind so tightly? And is forgiveness a gift to others...or a gift we give ourselves? Read now with your ereader, tablet device, or smart phone plus your Meridian Library card through June 1st!

Author Skype: Camron Wright on June 4 @ 10:30 am

Author Camron Wright is joining The Morning Book Club via Skype to answer questions about The Rent Collector.  There are extra spaces available so please RSVP by emailing Jill at jmitchell@mld.org, calling 888-4451, or signing up via our website.

Author Pam Houston is Coming to the Meridian Library

Come down to the Cherry Lane library Saturday, February 16th, at 3:00 p.m. to meet author Pam Houston for a free reading and book signing event! Pam is the author of the novels Contents May Have Shifted and Sight Hound; and two short story collections, Cowboys Are My Weakness and Waltzing the Cat. Her books will be for sale courtesy of Hyde Park Books, with a portion of the proceeds supporting library programs.

Idaho Steelheads Hat Trick Reading Program

Read a book, win a ticket!

The Idaho Steelheads, CenturyLink Arena, and several local libraries are again teaming up to reward Treasure Valley children for reading over the winter with the CenturyLink Hat Trick reading program. Just visit the Cherry Lane or Silverstone libraries, or the Bookmobile, and we will get you started!

Winter Read Program

Check out our Winter Reading Program game boards for early readers and older readers! Complete the board and bring it in to receive a Winter White Hot Chocolate from Powell's Sweet Shoppe, and a Treasure Chest Prize. The program runs from December 24th-January 15th.

Family Reading Week Fine Waiver

This week is Idaho Family Reading Week and if you come to any one of the Meridian Library locations, you can ask to receive up to a $5 waiver in overdue fines just for visiting the library!
Each location also has other activities, books, and more for you to check out to help get your child reading. We're still making single-serve chocolate cakes here at the Bookmobile (until we run out) so stop by when you get the chance!

Check out daybydayid.org during Family Reading Week. It includes daily reading and family activities like story time, sing-a-longs and crafts.
