Summer Reading

Summer Reading is almost here! We'll have lots of fun events from June 1st all the way through August 17th, for all ages and at all locations. Most important, though, don't forget to log every book you read (children, teens, and adults) to qualify for prizes!

Summer Reading Kick-Off at Silverstone!

Join us on Saturday, June 1st, as we celebrate the kick off of our Summer Reading program with a huge outdoor party and the Meridian Library at Silverstone. We will have two bounce houses and a carousel from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., free sample-size sandwiches from Jimmy John's at noon, and the Reptile Adventures Petting Zoo from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. We will also have temporary tattoos, sidewalk chalk art, coloring contest, bubble machine, door prizes, music, and pictures with our mascot available throughout the day. All ages are welcome!

Front Book Drops Unavailable

Starting May 1st, the book drops at the front of the Cherry Lane library will be unavailable due to interior construction to accomodate an automatic sorter. Please use the west side book drops or bring your materials into the library. You can also use our Silverstone location, our Bookmobile, or any local area LYNX! Consortium library to return Meridian Library materials.

Meet Our New Director!

Gretchen CaserottiThe Meridian Library District would like to extend an invitation for you to meet our new director, Gretchen Caserotti. Gretchen was formerly the Assistant Director for Public Services at the award-winning Darien Library in Darien, Connecticut. She currently serves as the chair of the Association for Library Service to Children and Families' Children and Technology Committee. She is a nationally recognized librarian for her work in reorganizing collections and technology integration into public library services and was awarded the Library Journal Mover & Shaker award for innovation in 2010. Join us Saturday, April 20th from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Cherry Lane library to meet Gretchen and share your thoughts about the future of the Meridian Library!

EveryoneOn!

Did you know that 62 million people do not use the internet, but that 80% of jobs are now posted online instead of newspapers? The EveryoneOn Campaign hopes to get everyone access to the internet.

Yesterday saw the start of Connect2Compete's EveryoneOn Campaign, a nation-wide public service campaign to promote the importance of digital literacy skills. From the website, you can find classes in your area, get tips on applying for jobs online, and find wifi access! Join the Meridian Library as we seek to get Everyone Online. Don't forget--we have free wifi at all three locations as well as computer access at the Meridian Library @ Cherry Lane and the Meridian Library @ Silverstone!

The Meridian Library at Cherry Lane now has a Twitter feed! Follow us along with our Silverstone branch and the Bookmobile to get news on programs for all ages,  news on upcoming events, and whatever else seems appropriate.

Meet the Finalists for Meridian Library Director

The Meridian Library District has narrowed our search for a new library director down to two candidates: Gretchen Caserotti and Jeffrey A. Trinkle. The Meridian Library District will be hosting a public reception for both of these excellent candidates Wednesday, January 9th, at the Cherry Lane location from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Please join us (RSVP to Laurel White, Interim Director) to welcome and get to know these two great librarians!

Help Wanted!

The Silverstone branch library is now accepting applications for a part-time page. This position is for 15 hours per week, and will be responsible for shelving and maintaining the proper order of books, magazines, and other library materials, as well as other duties. To apply submit a completed application and accompanying cover letter explaining why you are interested in the position no later than 5:00 p.m., Saturday, January 12th to:

Idaho Steelheads Hat Trick Reading Program

Read a book, win a ticket!

The Idaho Steelheads, CenturyLink Arena, and several local libraries are again teaming up to reward Treasure Valley children for reading over the winter with the CenturyLink Hat Trick reading program. Just visit the Cherry Lane or Silverstone libraries, or the Bookmobile, and we will get you started!

Every Child Ready to Read

The Meridian Library at Silverstone is currently registering families for the Every Child Ready to Read program.  Every Child Ready to Read is a free program for families with children ages 0-6.  Participants will learn how to foster their child's future reading success by learning and applying the six early literacy skills.  Join us for three free, fun one-hour workshops that will help you maximize your child's reading success.  It's never too early to start!
